Lost Creek Falls Study / Red Rock State Park
oil on canvas 12X24 inches
The painting to the left is a happy oil study of Lost Creek
Falls at Red Rock State Park, just west of Las Vegas. Getting
in to see the falls is an easy hike, just 20 minutes one way,
and rewarding any time but especially when the water is
flowing. This painting has a minor but nice and effective
black frame with a gold accent (not as shown).
The view is looking up at the water channel that has long
been worn into the rock from the rush of water, sometimes
as a a torrent of debris as well as the trickle of water shown
here. Reflections on the wet rock in such a deep canyon
allows for amazing colors like this with the blue of the sky
making a pretty contrast to the red and orange, the many
colors, actually, of the sandstone. The upper story is still
receiving sunlight, making even more of a contrast to the
lower falls.
I've been back to this waterfall several times recently, and
visited there many times in my youth in the late seventies.
I've seen it bare in winter and in the spring with leaves and
color from various plants.
This painting is for sale, available framed or unframed, and
I can assist with any framing requirement. Call or write!

Lost Creek Falls Visitor
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
oil on canvas 30X40 inches
The painting to the left is my developed composition of the Lost
Creek Falls at Red Rock State Park, an hour or so west of Las
Vegas. To see the falls is an easy hike from the 13 mile one-way
road (up the dead end extension) and very rewarding any time
you can get there, but especially when the water is flowing.
The view is from a higher position standing on a rock looking at
the water channel that has long been worn into the rock along
with the small fall of water and foliage at the base. Reflections on
the wet rock along with dry stains and plants allows for an
amazing color composition. The upper story still has sunlight,
helping even more to show the contrast to the base of the falls.
We’ve seen wild burros in the park, at Spring Mountain Ranch,
and found them nearby at the Blue Diamond little league field
where the youngster posed for me. I like that I could add him/her
to help with the scale of the painting. The falls are not that high,
really, so it needs the burro, and besides, can’t you imagine them
wandering back into that area often. I would enjoy a nice cold
shower, if I was a burro.
This painting will be for sale when completed (almost), and
available framed or unframed, and I can assist with any framing
requirement.
Quality reproductions will be available as well. Call or write!

Grand Canyon #1 / South Rim
oil on canvas 40X50 inches
The painting to the left is one of the first I began after moving
back to the Las Vegas / Henderson area. A Fall trip to Zion, The
North Rim, and South Rim in 2022 was spectacular. I’ve much
more to come after these paintings are all complete.
The photo here doesn’t really do it justice, and it's more
developed than you can see at this stage. But it should deliver a
sense of the grandeur of the scene and the way it has been
captured on canvas. I could do such images all my life! It’s
amazing how much detail there is here, but also a painter’s hand
at work, not a slavish rendering, although all things are in their
right places. And the range of colors--what a fun experience of
painting!
This painting will be for sale when completed (it is almost ready
to be signed), and available framed or unframed. I can assist with
any framing requirement. The ‘frame’ shown is merely a virtual
creation, for example.
Quality reproductions will be available as well. Call or write!

Lost Creek Falls - Heads Up!
Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area
oil on canvas 20X40 inches
The painting to the right is similar to the study of Lost Creek
Falls (see the comments of the painting to the left and that of the
study on the far left). This painting is larger and has an extended
scale. It’s really amazing to be deep in these canyons and to look
up the walls of rock, the colors are amazing!
The water channel that’s been worn into the rock along with the
small amount of water and the reflections on the wet rock, as
well as the dry stains alongside and underneath the ledge offers
an amazing color composition. The upper wall still has afternoon
sunlight, helping even more to contrast the rock around the falls.
I’ve a bit more to do on this one, and bother to show it
incomplete since I’m very excited about it and all my present
projects on this page. I like having several things going at once.
People often inquire as to how long something takes, they
proabably wouldn’t consider the waiting and watching, the
evaluating ,as worth being part of such an equation.
This painting will be for sale when completed (it is almost ready
to be signed), and available framed or unframed, and I can assist
with any framing requirement.
Quality reproductions will be available as well. Call or write!

Grand Canyon Contrast / South Rim
oil on canvas 36X48 inches
The painting to the right I began along with the tall center image
after moving West in 2022. Soon we took an amazing trip to
Zion, The North Rim, and the South Rim that was very
inspirational. This scene in particular attracted me for the range
of color and contrast of foreground rocks at the rim and the great
distance observed in the deep canyons affected by cloud cover
and sunshine.
This one, too, is more developed than you can see at this stage --
updates are to come, but it should give one enough of an idea. I
could do such images all my life! It’s amazing how much detail
there is here, but also a painter’s hand at work, not a slavish
rendering, although all things are in their right places. And the
range of colors--what a fun experience of painting!
